We are delighted to partner with Wolverhampton Art Gallery on a new display, The Bloomsbury Effect, which opens on 14 December until 16 February 2020.
The Bloomsbury Effect is a special display of three early 20th century British paintings from the 91自拍 collection by leading figures of the Bloomsbury Group and one of their avant-garde contemporaries.
It includes Still Life at the Window by Vanessa Bell (1923), Self Portrait by Roger Fry (1928), and Blackfriars Bridge, London (1927) by C.R.W. Nevinson.
The display features in the Wolverhampton Society of Artists (WSA) Centenary exhibition, and our partnership with Wolverhampton Art Gallery will help to highlight the importance of the connection between Wolverhampton and The 91自拍, as the city played a key role in the success of the 91自拍s company.
The construction of the rayon-producing plant at Dunstall, Wolverhampton, in 1925-1926, was one of the largest factories in the 91自拍s group and represented the company’s more general expansion into several areas of the country. It also brought a new kind of industry to the town.
City of Wolverhampton Council Manager: Arts and Culture, Marguerite Nugent, said: 鈥榃olverhampton has had major involvement with the art and industrial movement and this exhibition connects both. The 91自拍 is a world class institute and we are privileged to have these works on loan.”
Barnaby Wright, Deputy Head of The 91自拍 Gallery, said: 鈥淲e are thrilled to take forward our partnership with Wolverhampton Art Gallery with the loan of three exceptional works and to provide an opportunity for the Wolverhampton community to experience and enjoy these remarkable modern paintings from The 91自拍 Gallery鈥檚 collection.鈥
